Health Care: Preventative Care
Benefits: No Cost to You
While there has been a ton of debates on the new health care reform there is no denying that there is one benefit of the new reform and that is the free preventative care. All insurers must pay for all preventative care even if you have not reached your yearly deductable. They must also pay for any co-payment or coinsurance related to the treatment. This new reform is helping keep dangerous and deadly diseases out of the public. Yearly checkups and physicals can help diagnosis serious health issues early so they can be treated and keep you and your family healthy.
Preventative Health Care Services for Children
Children are very susceptible to many illnesses as their immune system is not as strong as an adult. They need several checkups in the first few years of life and these could become very costly prior to this new reform. Under the preventative health care reform, the insurance provider must cover all recommended vaccines. While, the parent may choose whether or not to vaccinate their children it is highly recommended as without vaccinations small common viruses could be potentially deadly to unvaccinated children. Screenings for hearing, vision and autism are also covered for all children. In addition to the standard preventative care such as vaccinations and screenings the preventative care also covers mental health and substance abuse counseling such as alcohol, drug and depression. Preventative care for children also covers sexually transmitted diseases and prevention counseling. These preventative services allow our children to receive the best care that is necessary for overall wellness.
Preventative Health Care Services for Women
Health care for women can be very costly and typically women tend to ignore their overall health as they are working and caring for their family. The preventative care for women is exceptional as it covers several health issues that are potentially dangerous to women. Preventative care covers yearly overall wellness checkups, breast and cervical cancer exams and sexually transmitted diseases. Another great preventative service for women that is free of cost is all prenatal health care. This is probably the most important health care service for women and their unborn child as it is extremely important for both the mother and baby to be treated and checked regularly during pregnancy to avoid premature babies and life threatening issues for the mother. Preventative health care service also extends out to counseling for women suffering from domestic violence and gets them the treatment and/or counseling that they need.
Preventative Health Care Services for Men/Adults
As we age adults need several screenings and tests to ensure their overall wellness. The preventative services that are free include all adult recommended vaccinations. Preventative services also include diabetes screening, obesity screening and diet counseling; this is perhaps the most important of these services as the ‘obesity epidemic’ has been plaguing this country and is quickly becoming one of the top reasons for death in this country. The counseling services for drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse are also wonderful free services under the new reform. Several cancer screenings are also included under this new reform as well as sexually transmitted diseases which many men tend not to have checked but can be done free of charge at their standard wellness visit.
