5 New Fitness Activities
Let’s skip the generic introduction on how important it is to work out. Yes, it is a healthy necessity and everyone should exercise, you will feel more energized, you’ll be in a better mood, and in the long run by keeping in shape you are prolonging your life, or so they say.
Instead of talking about how much calories you should burn, which you probably know already, we will go through five new and exciting ways to work out without even knowing it. It is always easier to lose weight when you are engaged in a fun activity, and you might find something that tickles your fancy in the following suggestions:
We are talking about fun ways to lose weight, so we can’t leave out trampoline fitness. If you were looking for an excuse to let off some steam and remember how fun it was to play on the trampoline, there is no better way to do so than to work out in the same time and burn some fat. In fact, you will burn up 400 to 600 calories per hour, depending on the concept and speed of your workout. Again, a great stress relief method, but even boxing and Pilates combined with this technique will help you to engage more muscles without actually working out too hard.
But keep in mind, trampoline safety is twice as important to keep in mind as an adult, now that you probably have no adult supervision while you are having fun. Loose fitting clothes are a big no-no when bouncing, since you don’t want a lace to get attached to the edge of the trampoline. Look for proper fitness apparel for this and for all other injury-prone activities. A good place to start looking is with retailers known for high-quality fitness apparel that doesn’t mind a little sweat, wear and tear – try Kill Cliff for a start!
This activity is far from new and innovative, but still as exciting as it gets. Rock climbing is now more popular than ever. In fact, this sport, which is over 120 years old if you’ll believe it, was first invented in England, by an adventurer called Walter Parry Haskett Smith. Not so recently, speed climbing even became a worldwide competition, and you can certainly find an indoor rock climbing center in your town that will provide you with the much needed equipment and protective gear.
Of course, you should always start in indoor settings, and work your way up to an actual mountain or cliff-face in your vicinity (or even head for a rock climbing vacation far away), and you will need the support of a trainer and a professional instructor. This is a great way to build your upper body, and you will burn more than 500 calories during a 1 hour climb.
This list should be called ancient fitness in fact, we got the title wrong, because this method of exercise is more than 3,000 years old. If you never heard of it, don’t worry, it’s just getting reintroduced as a slower style of workout, and if you are into meditation, Tai Chi and yoga, you will love this Qi Gong thing as well. Combining breathing, balance and martial arts, Qi Gong is a group workout that will help you burn 360 calories per hour on average, but will also help you relieve stress.
During the 1990s, the Columbian dancer Alberto Perez invented this fun style of exercise and dance-fitness workout. Today, Zumba is a worldwide phenomenon and in more than 200, 000 locations in the world you can find a Zumba center if you are interested. Combining various styles of dance, hip hop, samba, salsa, mambo and aerobic elements, this form of exercise offers several ways to lose weight and stay fit, and allegedly you can use up 500 to 1000 calories per hour. This might sound improbable, but if you do have any personal experience with Zumba classes, do let us know.
Live Action Role Playing
This is pretty much a self-explanatory form of exercise, and you probably heard about LARPING if you are, well, “a little bit nerdy” is the correct term. These events are not just fun, they also help you work up a sweat, and is a great motivator to get your weekend League of Legends guild outside for a change. Don’t feel insulted, we are geeky as much as the next person. Of course, LARPing is more than just “playing knights and wizards” these days. There are some very modern battle style LARPs you could try out, and you’ve probably already tried Paintball, haven’t you? Well, what is paintball if not a woodland skirmish with a clearly visible scoring system?
And now it’s time for some trivia! Do you know which single muscle in your body is attached at only one end? It’s your tongue! So talk less about working out and get into action.
